In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel called upon Ernest Beaux to create a rare and powerful "woman's perfume with a woman's scent." The Perfumer-Creator presented her with a visionary composition that made unprecedented use of aldehydes, and thus was born N°5 Parfum. In 1924, a new interpretation featuring woodier notes came into being: N°5 Eau de Toilette.
